POSTED ONDECEMBER 14, 2018 GreenHab report – December 14th Crew 200 Greenhab Report 14-DEC-2018

Greenhab Officer: Makiah Eustice

Environmental Control: Heating 40% Shade Cloth on

Average Temperatures: Low: 24 C High: 50 C

Hours of Supplemental Light: 5

Daily Water Usage of Crops: 8 gallons

Water in Blue Tank (lbs): 67%

Times of Watering for Crops: 1600

Changes to crops: NONE

Narrative: The high measurement was still 50 today, but since I wasn’t at the greenhab at the highest time in the day.

Harvest: 1.6 g of Sage 95.8 g Sunflower Sprouts 37.8 g Mixed Salad Greens 4.4 g Cilantro 6.4 g Water Cress

Support/Supplies Needed: Was there suppose to be a weight in the GreenHab? If so, I cannot find it and have to go to the Science Dome to get the mass of the harvest. GreenHab is a great place to work, it has alot of potential. With added sensors and automated suns shades, the Hab GreenHab can become closer to the type of system we’d want on Mars!

POSTED ONDECEMBER 13, 2018 Greenhab Report – December 13th Crew 200 Greenhab Report 13-DEC-2018 Greenhab Officer: Makiah Eustice

Daily Water Usage of Crops: 8 gallons

Water in Blue Tank (lbs): 67%

Times of Watering for Crops: 1000

Changes to crops: NONE

Narrative: The weird 54 C reading was a trick of the light, literally! I moved it closer to the center of the hab, away from direct sun. I also tested with an analog thermometer.

Harvest: NONE

Support/Supplies Needed: It would be interesting to sees the O2 ans CO2 levels throughout the day. It would be an important measure to have on Mars! If you can, I’d love suggestions for sensors.

POSTED ONDECEMBER 7, 2018 Greenhab Report – December 7th Crew 200 Greenhab Report 07-DEC-2018

Greenhab Officer: Makiah Eustice

Environmental Control: Heating 40% Shade Cloth on

Average Temperatures: Low: 19 C High: 49 C

Hours of Supplemental Light: 5

Daily Water Usage of Crops: 2.5 gallons

Water in Blue Tank (lbs): 28%

Times of Watering for Crops: 1100

Changes to crops: Planted 6 small areas of sunflower seeds Planted 6 small areas of alfafa seeds Harvested 69 g of mixed salad greens

Narrative: Decided on format for outreach experiment, planted the sunflower seeds and alfalfa. Last day with the full crew, so we are having a fresh salad!

Harvest: 69g mixed salad greens

Support/Supplies Needed: One of the raised beds of mixed salad greens is having some wilting, while the one I harvested is thriving. I’ve been watering both the same, but it seemed to be showing signs of this for the past week. I also need a more accurate way to take the height of the water level. It is hard for me (and even another crew member) to tell the level just from tapping it. A level sensor or a pressure sensor would be a good addition to the Greenhouse.

Support/Supplies Needed: Let me know if there is any comment on a pulley system that could be implemented to easily lower and raise the lights.

POSTED ONDECEMBER 3, 2018 Greenhab Report – December 3rd rew 200 GreenHab Report – 03-DEC-2018

Greenhab Officer: Makiah Eustice

Environmental Control:

Heating

Shade Cloth on

Average Temperatures:

Low: 70 F

High: 80 F

Hours of Supplemental Light: 5

Daily Water Usage of Crops: 10 L

Water in Blue Tank (lbs): 1/3 full

Changes to crops:

Planted 3 small cups of Water Cress for Andrew’s school outreach. Planted shallow bed of sun flower seeds and shallow bed of mixed salad greens. All reported in the Greenhab Log

Narrative:

First day in the Greenhab! A sauna for me, but a retreat for anyone trying to briefly escape the cold. Still trying to understand the operations and needs of individual plants.

Harvest: NONE

Support/Supplies Needed: The humidity/temperature measure is not displaying the temperature correctly; we may need a new sensor. The supplemental light did not come on Sunday night, but did tonight; I will check to see if the light goes off at midnight tonight. Some of the snap peas and tomatoes are not doing well; I believe they need more sun to thrive.
