Integrated energy generation is the strategy of embedding small-scale generators throughout a settlement. The daily activities of residents generate electricity or other forms of energy. While power produced by single devices will be small, all devices together may be able to supply a signifigant amount of energy.

Sources

Settlement Hardware

Doors could have small generators as hinges. Floors could be fitted with piezoelectric materials. The weight of residents sitting in chairs could help pressurize hydraulic or pneumatic systems.

Exercise Equipment

Exercise equipment is a perfect fit for energy generation. Otherwise, the effort is wasted as heat or movement. Exercise may be encouraged by allowing colonists to sell their energy.

Clothing

Clothing can harness natural movements. Targets include knees, elbows, shoes, and hips.

Challenges

Integrated energy devices introduce added complexity to any item, increasing cost and maintenance needs.
