Isidis Planitia is an ancient impact basin, the third largest after Hellas and Argyle. Or the fourth if the entire Northern hemisphere of Mars is proven to be an impact structure.

Is is located at the intersection of the Syrtis Major and Amenthes quadrangles.

Jezero crater, the site of the Mars 2020 mission, is on the Western edge of Isidis Planitia.

Massive impacts can create Chaotic Terrain on the opposite side of the planet from the impact. At the antipode from Isidis Planitia, is the Tharsis bulge.
