Offices may be the less glorious of colony spaces, but they will be required nonetheless. Office facilities will evolve from single rooms to complete buildings/spaces as the settlement grows.

Administration requires space. Offices may be placed in radiation shielded spaces to reduce yearly radiation dosage of settlers. One might expect the recent trend of home working on earth to replicate itself on Mars. Much will depend on the settlement configuration.

• ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-conditioning Engineers) proposes a standard office occupation load of 5 persons per 100m2.
• Reception areas and break rooms can reach 30 to 50 persons per 100m2.
