Ryan Smith is an electronic engineer working for RAL Space, a department of the Science and Technology Facilities Council. He has always strived to work in the aerospace industry, and became more interested in space after reading about the Mercury 7 in the "the Right Stuff" by Tom Wolfe. He makes instrumentation for spacecraft, and worked on equipment for in flight calibration of cameras, power circuity for Earth monitoring satellites and a cubesat to demonstrate Quantum Key Distribution. Ryan has a MEng in Robotics from Plymouth University, UK and has a passion for space, and researches ways to explore it, with a leaning towards rovers and rover systems.
