Nicholson Crater lies almost directly on the Martian equator.

Nicholson crater is deep for its latitude, about 4km bellow the Martian average. It has a large central peak rising 3.5 km above the bottom of the crater. The depth of the crater increase the air pressure and makes it a potential site for landing large landers.
