It should be noted that bees navigate using the earth's magnetic field. As mars has no mag. field, other insects which do not navigate in this way may be necessary. Human pollination may also be an alternative and is currently practiced in the Seschuan region of China where bees have ceased to exist. If you buy pears in the store, chances are that they come from Seschuan. I have manually pollinated irises for controlled crossbreeding and can vouch for its effectiveness (and the fact that it is a pain in the you know where). -- Jarogers2001 07:11, 28 June 2008 (UTC)
