Talk:Limited medical care
So is it suggested that say, if the colonists get cancer or something that you just leave them to die? T.Neo 12:53, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
- We are talking about an autonomous colony. I see the problem, but what do you suggest? -- Rfc 16:28, 1 August 2008 (UTC)
I think that a colony be made semi-autonomous. We can make several low-tech systems on Mars, Building materials, etc. Other things are supplied from Earth, i.e. some computers, certain drugs, foods such as chocolate, etc. If or when this supply stops, the colonists can still live on Mars, albeit in a simpler way. Some drugs can be derived from plants, but not all. It is immoral to deny people such treatment, escpecially in such a high radiation environment. If a disease is serious, it might be needed to move that person back to Earth, however, it might not be a good idea exposing them to the stresses of spaceflight and radiation in space. - Okay, let's devide it into two scenarios: Limited medical care in an autonomous colony and Limited medical care in a semi-autonomous colony. I think we should consider either colony type, because a semi-autonomous colony may be forced to become autonomous someday, and the colonists should have a plan how to proceed under such circumstances. While there's life, there's hope. -- Rfc 17:52, 3 August 2008 (UTC)
