The raw data of a poll in Germany about Mars One. User:Rfc has performed the poll and has created this document.
Some explanation about the German wording and used symbols:
- "Nr." = No.
- "Kennen" = Know about Mars One
- "1 €" = Willingness to spend 1 € for the right to watch a life stream.
- "m/w" = male/female
- "Alter" = age
- "-" = no
- "+" = yes
The poll covers 52 persons, while one entry is invalid due to low age. The persons were asked the following 2 questions:
- 1. A dutch organization plans to send 4 persons to Mars. Have you heard about that?
- 2. Would you consider spending 1 € for the right to watch a live stream of the landing and the first week on Mars?
The age was not asked. A few persons gave their age. The age of all others was estimated.
If a person claimed to know about Mars One, I was a little suspicious if that was really the case. So, in order to check the correctness of the answer, I asked the person to tell whether or not the astronauts were to return to Earth finally. Only if the person was sure there would be no return, I could be sure they really knew about Mars One and we were talking about the same project.
The second question aimed at the eagerness to watch the live stream. The price of 1 € was deliberately used to distinguish the really interested from the not really interested. The price of 1 € is low enough to allow a "yes", regardless of their personal financial situation. However, it turned out that all persons who would want to watch it on regular TV would also pay 1 € for a live stream. So, I just could have asked more simple "Do you want to watch the event on TV?", which would yield the same result.
