Summary of Science Dome operations: We were operating the autoclave by the handbook that was provided and as the pressure began to rise to the optimal pressure, it began to drop suddenly. We found that there was a leak out of the threads of the pressure valve that attaches the whole valve assembly to the lid, probably because it was not tightened properly. In order to remedy that, the XO got an adjustable wrench and made a tightening quarter turn on the valve, which caused the leak to stop and pressure, began to rise again. However, a minute later, the upper pressure release segment popped off. Upon inspection, we found that the valve sheared where pressure normally releases. It appears that the valve was already weakened as it sheared cleanly. No threads were damaged, so if a replacement valve assembly can be obtained, the issue should be repairable. The minimum sterilization pressure (17 psi) was obtained only momentarily and no higher pressures were experienced.

General notes and comments: Our water saving techniques were successful as we positively exceeded expectations on water saving. We used just under 25 gallons in 24 hours, given that between sending the reports of sols 2 and 3, the loft tank was not filled at all.

Summary of internet: One device accidentally used internet, leaving us with probably just enough data to send reports. If data were not enough, report would be sent on the morning of sol 4.

Summary of suits and radios: In preparation to the second EVA of the afternoon on the 12^thFebruary, we found out several suits were not working nominally. Other suits had not finished charging (from the first EVA conducted in the morning) by the time the second EVA preparation had begun, even though they were set to charge as soon as the crew from the first EVA came back. One of the suit chargers is missing. More information was sent to Atila/Mission support in an email.

EVA suits were checked today (13^thFeb) to confirm voltage of battery and status of fans. The following anomalies were found:

- Suit #7 fans were not working. Voltage in battery was 3.5 V. Replaced the battery with a spare form RAM. Now the suit is operational.

- Suit #6: voltage was 9.5V. Replaced the battery with a spare form RAM. Now the suit is operational.

- Suit #3 had no battery. We place a spare battery from the RAM. The voltage measured however is 11.3 V. The fans seems to be working. We will check again to ensure full operation.

Summary of internet: Around noon, D. Masaitis (CO) checked the internet data status and saw a remaining data allocation of 392 MB. 20 minutes later, the data allocation dropped to 0 MB. Upon inspection of the crew’s devices, no offending device was found. A survey of the devices connected to the internet revealed only the router and D. Masaitis’ laptop, which was being used to correspond with Mission Control. The cause of the anomaly is still unknown and we will continue to monitor the Hab network.

Questions, concerns and requests to Mission Support: Temperature in the upper deck of the Hab rose during the morning, at some points getting close to reaching 27 deg C, even though the heater in the lower deck was set by the engineer to slightly below the "ideal" middle setting of "3" (which usually gives the Hab a temperature of 21 - 23 deg C). The assistant director recommended turning the heater off and on again. After turning the heater off, the engineer and commander struggled to turn it back on again. As of writing this report, it is currently still off, however the temperature in the upper deck is a comfortable 23.8 deg C.

Summary of suits and radios: Two radios have been stuck in privacy and NOAA weather radio mode, respectively since we arrived. Following the radio’s manual did not fix them. Notes describing the issues have been clipped to the radios to assist future troubleshooting and identify them as not working. We still have plenty of radios working so it is not urgent.

Summary of Hab operations: Replaced the air filter in the heater in the lower-deck. Heater upstairs is nominal and currently used.
