A Missile Defence System is a system that is designed to protect against missiles. There are several types of Missile Defence System: anti-missile rockets, mass drivers, and directed energy.

Anti-missile rockets are designed to defend against long to medium range threats, such as ICBMs.

Mass Drivers are designed to defend against short range threats, such as anti-ship missiles.

Directed Energy systems, such as Lasers, are designed to be effective at any range, depending on the power.

Research and development of Missile defence systems could benefit future attempts at defeating asteroid threats, both to spacecraft and to settlements.
