NASA's Phoenix mission is an robotic mission to Mars due for launch in August 2007, as the first lander in NASA's "Scout class". Intended to analyse the Martian surface for water (as mapped by the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter), the Phoenix Mars Mission will test the Martian environment to provide data for future manned habitation of the planet. This is the first such lander to carry out these landmark tests.
