A Rover is any vehicle designed to traverse the surface of a planet, moon, or asteroid.

Rovers on the Moon

Unmanned

Lunokhod 1 and 2 were the first rovers to explore the surface of the Earth's moon.

Chandrayaan-II is currently under development by ISRO.

Manned

Several Apollo missions carried specially designed lunar rovers. These all-terrain vehicles greatly extended the range of the crew.

Rovers on Mars

Unmanned

Three rovers have succesfully explored the surface of Mars: Sojourner, Spirit, and Opportunity.

The Mars Science Laboratory is currently under development by NASA, and is planned for launch in the fall of 2011.
