A solar concentrator is an alternative to photovoltaic power. A solar concentrator concentrates the power of the sun onto a working fluid such as ammonia. On Mars, due to the lower temperature, the working fluid would not be water. The fluid is heated and changes to a gas. The change in phase results in greater pressure, which can be harnessed to drive mechanics. Devices which can be used in conjunction with a solar concentrator include sterling engines, turbines, thermoelectric generators, and steam engines.
